Te.xT

In this novel the text is a little off to me. Especially with there being bullying going around through the school.  Me being from a public school, the words they use in the book are of a high callabore. During high school there is a lot more cursing with the students. Like in the dialogue when she is talking to nick or the bully on the bus she should have used a lot more profanity in my eyes. I know when I was in high school there was a f word and the b word left and right and I know it’s like that in any other school for example Notre dame high school and Washington high school. One thing I thought the other should have changed was the dialogue between the students and the thoughts of Valerie because I know in reality and that’s how she want this book to come off, she would have been doing a lot more swearing and a lot more anger. As a reader it would have brought me closer to the book understanding her feelings and where she was coming from as a person. And I think some of my fellow students would agree with me. The text wasn’t bad at all I still got into the book, but it was like she didn’t sound like a teenager. She sounded like she was in her thirties. To me that’s one of the biggest things with authors and writing books they don’t put themselves in the situation or think of it as a teenager would.

  1. Interesting observation, Jeraud! I never really thought about it. I wonder if the author was trying to make the book more marketable to a larger audience. I agree with you. I know how high schoolers talk. And it does feel a bit fake.
